Thursday Poll – Not to Old to Learn

First Weekly Prize will be announced tomorrow in the Revive-A-Vintage contest. If you show up in this search, you’re eligible!

They say it gets harder and harder to learn new things as you get older but that you should still try because its good for aging, rigid, crusty old brains to think new thoughts. I say that’s a bunch of crap. I’m no spring chicken and I’m learning new stuff all the time!

Stuff I Learned Just this week

(or skip all the blather and go take a poll)

• My neighbor is a big wuss and would rather take his 90+ pound dog with him everywhere, even to work, than face up to one conversation with me about the constant barking.

• I like fried eggs if they are fried in butter. I’ve been eating them scrambled my whole life because fried eggs were yucky.

• Tea cozies that have openings for the handle and spout are called “bachelor” tea cozies. Bachelors, according to page 135 of The History Of  Hand Knitting, were deemed too lazy to lift up a cozy, take the teapot out, pour, and put the cozy back over it. So in 1893 Weldon’s published a new design with openings and called it the bachelor tea cozy.

• I learned a new crochet stitch. I was looking through my old pattern books while writing those Vintage Crochet Terms Translated and Vintage Knit Terms Translated posts and this one section, that I have probably skimmed over a dozen times, stood up and poked me in the eye. Turns out it was a stitch I had never heard of before. (Guess what will be showing up in the Sunday Stitch?)

That’s a pretty good list right? And the week isn’t over so maybe there will be more. My brain doesn’t feel rigid and crusty. I like to learn new things. I really like to learn new yarn-y things. How about you?

  1. I love learning new things! It’s how I ended up with a ridiculous range of jewelry making and fiber arts tools and materials, though. I’m working on designing a line of wearable art that uses all of it so I can justify not getting rid of any of it, lol!
