Impatients – a lovely flowering annual that gets its name from its exploding seed capsules. I guess they don’t like waiting either.

Happy Blog-O-Versary

This month is my one year anniversary on this blog. Its such an important event that I accidentally noticed it only yesterday. Yep, it was last August that I made my first post here at Roving Crafters.

Don’t bother to read that first post. I’m certainly not going to. A while ago I was told that bloggers should never go back and read their older stuff because they will likely hate it and be tempted to pull it down. That sounds like good advice and I’m following it.

Summer of Shawls

Summers are my time. I love the heat and hate the cold. For me, summers are that magical time of year when heat is freely available and all I have to do is step outside into a powerful sunbeam and let the warm seep into my bones.

Ahhhhhh.

But sooner or later, life forces me to go inside. Inside there are air conditioners. Not just ordinary sit-in-the-window air conditioners. These are Texas sized air conditioners and they are being controlled by Texans. Texans cannot be trusted with air conditioning. They get completely out of control and will not listen to reason.

A (Mostly) Finished Rag Bag!

Today is Hooray Day for me because I’m (mostly) finished with my Rag Bag Crochet Tote.

I like the bag. The Feline Overlord likes the bag. Even Cowardly Boy Cat seems to like the bag. Best of all? I have plenty of pictures to show how I (mostly) finished it off, instead of a bunch of clever excuses like last time.

The Things Pinterest can Talk You Into

Its summer and its hot and maybe steamy and its hard to really get into a sizable project. We need little stuff to work on. Little, pretty, and perhaps utterly useless stuff.

Every try decorating cards, or card stock with a crochet edge? Its dead simple. I have plenty of cards that I’ve kept because I’m a sentimental squish. They sit in a box where no one can see them. Today I’m decorating one and hanging it up. Its the perfect kind of project for a hot summer day.

Sunday Stitch – How to Block a Hat

I’m a blocker. I block most everything that comes off my needles and hooks.

Slouchy hats, tams, berets, can be tricky to block on a standard pin-board because the don’t really lay flat. They are three dimensional. If you’re a blocker like me who feels compelled to block everything, you need a different method..

Knitting and Crocheting and Taking Pictures Of It All

I’m a realist. If all I did was write about the things I knitted and crocheted and spun, you wouldn’t be reading this blog. There has to be pictures and lots of them. Any picture, even a cruddy one, is better than no picture.  But a good picture?

A good picture will grab your attention faster than anything else I can do on a web page. I’m always trying to take the very best pictures I can.

Something I’ve Wanted For A While: A Seashell On My Head

Really, I have wanted to knit the Chambered Nautilus Tam from the moment I laid eyes on it. Its an Elizabeth Zimmermann design and its one of her “no purls needed”. It’s gorgeous right? Right! That’s why its on the cover of her book, Knit One Knit All.
